When I heard the Canstruction Design Competition was heading to The Gardens Mall for two weeks in June, I knew the spectacular installations would make an eye-catching backdrop for The Vivant’s first fashion shoot.
Hosted annually by the Palm Beach County Food Bank, this year’s Canstruction exhibit spotlighted the philanthropy’s five-year anniversary and its ongoing efforts to eradicate hunger around the county.
The juried event challenged charitable businesses like FPL, Pratt & Whitney, and others to create exuberant works with South Florida significance, like wildlife or a historic landmark, from cans and non-perishable goods that were later donated to the food bank. Highlights included a striking replica of the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse and a seismic, “mommy-I-want-it” Loggerhead sea turtle.
As a writer, an editor, and a former marketing and public relations executive, I’ve organized myriad product and lifestyle shoots but not even binge-watching America’s Next Top Model could completely prepare me for my first self-directed photo shoot featuring my favorite statement essentials from eight style purveyors at The Gardens Mall, including Bloomingdales, Lilly Pulitzer, Eileen Fisher, J. McLaughlin, Bunulu, Tommy Bahama, Johnny Was, and Vineyard Vines.
You can check them out below and please weigh in on your favorite photographs by South Florida shutterbug Gabrielle Wilde. Thank you! XO
